BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Yvonne Mayes, of Bridgeport and formerly of Shelton, died on Friday, July 24, at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Va. She was 76.
She was born in Warsaw, N.C. to Emma Miller-Moore and Nathan Moore, moving to Bridgeport and graduating from Central High School in 1957. She worked for the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of Ansonia.
Mayes was predeceased by her husband, Nathaniel; and three brothers, Nathan Moore, Lawrence Moore and Willie Moore.
She is survived by six children, Dwayne Mayes, Nathaniel Mayes, Mamie Mayes, Flora Mayes-Taylor of Yonkers, Donita Mayes-McKinney of Richmond, Va., and Noah Mayes of Seymour, brother Kenneth Moore of Georgia, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the March Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave. in Richmond, Va
